It is always nice to have the option of surrendering, however many blackjack players make the mistake of surrendering far too often. A player should only surrender when the chances of winning are 25% or less, and calculating these odds is not an easy task. We always suggest that beginner players never surrender unless there is an obvious indicator that the player is going to loose.
Once a player knows the strategies well enough that referencing the tables is no longer necessary, the player may decide to start calculating the odds and surrendering in the right situations. Remember calculating these odds is very complex and knowing the strategy tables is not enough, players should be very experienced before making the game more complex. Surrendering in the right situation will slightly shift the odds in the players favor, but surrendering in the wrong situation will greatly increases the casino’s edge.
In the Player Tools menu you’ll find an odds calculator that makes calculating the odds much easier.
