Blackjack Switch is an easy game to enjoy, however it is a little more complicated than the other variations of blackjack when a player is applying a strategy based on mathamatics. The following table gives players the information they need to determine if switching the second card dealt to each hand is a good idea. The table outlines the player odds of winning a hand. To determine if switching is a good decision a player must first add the odds of each hand without switching, before calculating the odds of switching. If the players odds are better without switching, you should not switch.
For example, lets say you are dealt a 7/10 and a 3/8 and the dealer is showing an 10. If you decide to switch your new hands would be a 7/8 and a 3/10. Referencing the table below we will determine if switching is a good decision.
Original Hands
| First Hand | Dealers Card | Player Odds |
| 7/10 = 17 | 10 | -0.4751 |
| Second hand | Dealers Card | Player Odds |
| 3/8 | 10 | 0.0734 |
You now need to add the player odds together to determine the combined odds of winning for both hands.
First Hand Player Odds - 0.4751
Second Hand Player Odds + 0.0734
Total Player Odds - 0.4037
Switched Hands
| First Hand | Dealers Card | Player Odds |
| 7/8 | 10 | -0.5267 |
| Second hand | Dealers Card | Player Odds |
| 3/10 | 10 | 0.4507 |
First Hand Player Odds - 0.5267
Second Hand Player Odds + 0.4507
Total Player Odds - 0.9774
By comparing the total player odds before, and after switching, a player can determine if switching is a good decision. In this example, Switching is not a good decision. Always choose to play the hands that give you the best chance of winning. With -0.4037 as a total the odds are still against you, but they’re much better than a total of –0.9774. After you have determined to switch or not to switch, play each hand according to the regular strategy table.
